City Development & Communications Associate

Teach For India – Chennai

Teach for India has been working in Chennai since 2012, and currently works with 32 schools towards providing all children in the region an excellent education. We have 110 Teach for India Alumni who are working for children in diverse professions including teaching, teacher training, community engagement and social entrepreneurship. Collectively, we are directly and indirectly serving about 4 lakh students in the region.

The position summary of City Development Associate:
1. Conduct prospect research to expand the donor portfolio in the region
2. Create reports and collateral (print/digital) to continuously invest and update donors, including managing the social media channels for Teach for India Chennai
3. Leads donor engagement activities for the city (e.g. – corporate volunteering, in kind support etc.)
4. Build and manage partnerships (with Corporates, Academic Institutions, NGOs, Media, City events etc.) beyond funding towards sustainable city operations
5. Support the Manager/ Director with additional research as and when required
6. Manage Interns and Fellows working on specific projects under their work stream
7. Collaborate with teams such as Recruitment, Alumni and Communications for shared opportunities

Teach For India

The Teach For India Fellowship program, is an opportunity for India’s brightest and most promising youth, from the nation’s best universities and workplaces, to serve as full-time teachers to children from low-income communities in some of the nation’s most under-resourced schools.

Activities & Accomplishments during the two-year fellowship at Chennai Middle School, MGR Nagar:

Academic Achievement
1.9 levels of Reading Comprehension growth, 2.3 levels of Writing growth.

Community Investment —
1. As a member of the ‘Nam Kural’ – the community impact committee of Teach For India Chennai. Planned and executed an ‘Aware’ session with 60+ parents deep diving into the problems faced by the community and how we can solve these problems for the betterment of the learning outcomes of the children.

Technology in Education —
1. Initiated and mentored ‘Community Local Guides’ project which involved Grade 5 students marking 60+ local places in the Google Maps,
2. Mentored 2 students for executing a project which involves student-led website development for every classroom with a live demo of the website and explained to 200+ students in an inter-school Science Exhibition.
3. Revamped the Computer Science laboratory in the school with the help of volunteers, repairing the computers to the usable state

Access & Exposure —
1. Students actively participating in 30+ competitions happened across India including IEEE Computer Society India Symposium 2018 held at Bodh Gaya, India.
2. Collaborated with Teach For Bangladesh and conducted an online interactive session between students in Chennai and Dhaka.
3. Students participating in all the 5 International Olympiads (English, Math, Science, General Knowledge, and Cyber)

Fundraising —
Raised funds of INR 2.4 lakhs with the support from 183 donors across the world, The fundraising campaign had more than 650+ shares on social media.
